Two-year-old Layla is believed to have been abducted by her 58-year-old non-custodial grandmother, Yolanda Gonzalez-Garcia. Her father, Enrique Gallegos-Gonzalez, divorced her mother, Michele Gallegos in 1999. Michele had a drinking problem at the time and entered a treatment program.
Enrique was granted custody of Layla and her 5-year-old brother, Quique and took them to San Luis Potosi in Central Mexico. The children were supposed to spend summers with Michele in Eagle River, Alaska.
Enrique shot and killed Quique in February of 2002 before fatally shooting himself. Afterwards, temporary custody of Layla was given to Yolanda, but an American judge ordered Yolanda to return her to the United States where her mother lives, but Yolanda refused to do so.
Layla and Yolanda are believed to be in Mexico, but they may return to Alaska occasionally to visit a half-brother. Layla's whereabouts are unknown and her case remains unsolved.
Layla is a Hispanic female with brown hair & brown eyes. She has a small, superficial hole on the outside of her left ear. Her nickname is Laylay or Laylee.
