On June 21, 1989, 15-year-old Monica Bennett and her 14-year-old brother, Michael were last seen at the Heritage Apartments (now called Merritt Landing Apartments) located in the 5700 block of Altama Avenue in Brunswick, Georgia.
They were helping their stepfather (who was separated from their mother) move into another apartment complex. The stepfather told police that he dropped the children off at the apartment complex, but their mother said she never saw them and they have not been seen since.
At first, Authorities believed that Monica and Michael ran away, but they now suspect foul play. Monica was close to her older sister even though they did not live together.
After their disappearances, the stepfather has since moved to Alabama. In 2005, their cases were reclassified as endangered missing.
