One-year-old Shane was last seen at the Martin Luther King Jr. Towers playground in New York City, New York on August 10, 1989.

He was at the playground with his mother, who gave Shane permission to play with two other kids while she sat on a bench.

A man approached Shane's mother and began a conversation with her which made her become distracted. When Shane's mother turned back to look for her son, Shane was gone.

The two kids Shane was playing with (a 10-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother) were gone too, but the kids later re-entered the park through a hole in the fence a short time later. The kids told Shane's mother that they left him in the park. The police questioned the kids and also interviewed the man who spoke to Shane's mother.

At first, they looked into the possibility that Shane was taken by a family member, but then concluded that he was probably abducted by a non-relative.

Shane's case has similarities with the disappearance of 2-year-old Christopher Dansby, who went missing from the same playground in May of 1989, three months before Shane went missing.

Both boys disappeared on the same day of the week (which was on a Thursday) at roughly the same time (Shane at 5:00pm and Christopher at 7:00pm). Also, just before his disappearance, Christopher was seen playing with the same two kids that Shane played with when he was last seen.

Authorities also investigated the possibility that the boys' cases were connected to a black market baby-ring operation and that 1-month old Andre Bryant, who was abducted from Brooklyn in March of 1989 was a victim of that since all the kids were African-American and abducted in the same year.

Shane's parents still live in the same neighborhood Shane disappeared from and his mom hopes that her son is still alive and will be returned to her. His case remains unsolved and he has never been found.

Shane was last seen wearing a blue & white shirt, light blue pants and white LA Gear sneakers.

His hair was braided and pulled back into a ponytail at the time of his disappearance and he frequently wore that hairstyle in 1989. He also has a small scar under his chin.
