Twelve-year-old Sharon was last seen on September 18, 1984 in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.

She and another girl from Hot Springs, South Dakota ran away from home & they were hitchiking near Casper, Wyoming when they were picked up by a man named Royal Russell Long.

Royal took the girls to his Evansville, Wyoming home where he fed them & then offered them $100 for sexual services. When the girls refused, he tied them up at gunpoint, physically assaulted Sharon & raped the other girl. Later that night, the girl escaped and sought help from a neighbor. When the police arrived at the house, Royal and Sharon were gone.

A week later, Royal was arrested in Albuquerque, New Mexico and pled guilty to kidnapping the girls for the purpose of committing indecent liberties with a minor & one count of aggravated assault. He died in prison in November of 1993.

Royal claimed that he drove Sharon to Cheyenne, Wyoming and took her on another ride to Texas, but denied knowing her whereabouts. Sharon has not been seen since.

Sharon was last seen wearing a black & yellow top with a tiger stripe pattern and black shoes. She was also carrying a red bag.

Sharon is the oldest of four siblings & disappeared right before she was about to begin her first year at the Brainerd Indian School in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

There have been possible sightings of her in Colorado & Wisconsin in the years following Sharon's disappearance, but she has not been located & foul play is suspected in her case.
