Eight-year-old Shy'Kemmia was last seen near her family's house on Crumpler Avenue (located near The Roxy Club) in Unadilla, Georgia on the evening of September 4, 1998.
Her family was planning on attending a high school football game that evening. Her older sister decided to get gas for her car and pick up Shy'Keemia afterwards. When the sister returned home, she realized that Shy'Keemia was missing.
At first, the family assumed that Shy'Kemmia had gotten a ride with someone else or went to play at a friend's house, but when they were unable to find her later that evening, they called the police who incorrectly told them Shy'Kemmia had to have been missing for over 24 hours before starting an investigation. She has not been seen since.
Investigators explored the possibility that one of her family's neighbors, Quentin "Droopy" Kendrick may have been involved in her case.
In 2001, Kendrick was arrested in 2001 and charged with several counts of sexual assault. He resided approximately 300 yards from Shy'Kemmia's home at the time she disappeared. A search of his property did not yield any clues as to Shy'Kemmia's whereabouts & Kendrick is not believed to have been involved in her disappearance.
Shy'Kemmia is an African-American female with black hair & brown eyes. Her nickname is Shy-Shy. At the time of her disappearance, she had a height of 4'4 and weighed 59 pounds. She also had braided extensions in her hair which was twirled in the front with 10 to 12 gold beads in the sections & pierced ears. She has a scar along her waistline from prior kidney surgery.
She was last seen wearing a neon green button-down Atlanta Braves jersey with red lettering, Levi's jeans, white K-Swiss sneakers and a leg brace she had to wear due to a displaced kneecap.
Shy'Kemmia has multiple medical conditions including severe asthma which required at-home breathing treatments, an underdeveloped kidney (caused from birth), a weak bladder (which required her to wear Pull-Ups otherwise she would've had to use the toilet every 10 to 15 minutes) and was often fatigued.
Authorities believe that Shy'Kemmia would've required regular medical treatment in order to survive into adulthood. Prior to her disappearance, she was hospitalized for an asthma attack.
She is described as an outgoing child who loved getting new clothes & skating and was also involved in her family's church.
Authorities believe that Shy'Kemmia may have been abducted by someone she was familiar with at the time, but everyone in her family has been cleared of suspicion. The neighborhood she resided in had a high crime rate with a lot of drug use and gambling.
Shy'Kemmia's case remains unsolved and her case is classified as being an Endangered Missing person.
